Council of Greater Bexar County-
President Barak Obama greeted students from around the country at last week’s White House Science Fair, and some of those lucky students were from the San Antonio.
The North East Independent School District’s Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Academy is made up of team members Jocelyn Hernandez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Nathaly Salazar and Carlos Zapata. The “Dr. Med” team was recognized by the president for their success in the eCYBERMISSION Competition.
The team investigated the effects improperly disposed pharmaceutical chemicals has on water from the Edwards Aquifer. The team took home first place in the regional competition in the 2010-2011 eCYBERMISSION competion. Each team member won a $3,000 savings bond.
eCYBERMISSION is a free Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics competition for students in grades six through nine. Team compete for state, regional and national awards while working to solve problems in their community.
